چکیده

We first present new structural properties of a two-pair in various graphs. A twopair is used in a well-known characterization of weakly chordal graphs. Based on these properties, we prove the main theorem: a graph G is a weakly chordal (K2,3, 4P2, P2 ∪ P4, P6,H1,H2,H3)-free graph if and only if G is an edge intersection graph of subtrees on a tree with maximum degree 4. This characterizes the so called [4, 4, 2] graphs. The proof of the theorem constructively finds the representation. Thus, we obtain an algorithm to construct an edge intersection model of subtrees on a tree with maximum degree 4 for such a given graph. This is a recognition algorithm for [4, 4, 2] graphs. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Finding intersection models: From chordal to Helly circular-arc graphs

Every chordal graph G admits a representation as the intersection graph of a family of subtrees of a tree. A classic way of finding such an intersection model is to look for a maximum spanning tree of the valuated clique graph of G. Similar techniques have been applied to find intersection models of chordal graph subclasses as interval graphs and path graphs. In this work, we extend those metho...

Chordal Graphs as Intersection Graphs of Pseudosegments

We investigate which chordal graphs have a representation as intersection graphs of pseudosegments. The main contribution is a construction which shows that all chordal graphs which have a representation as intersection graph of subpaths on a tree are representable. A family of intersection graphs of substars of a star is used to show that not all chordal graphs are representable by pseudosegme...

Bounding cochordal cover number of graphs via vertex stretching

It is shown that when a special vertex stretching is applied to a graph, the cochordal cover number of the graph increases exactly by one, as it happens to its induced matching number and (Castelnuovo-Mumford) regularity. As a consequence, it is shown that the induced matching number and cochordal cover number of a special vertex stretching of a graph G are equal provided G is well-covered bipa...

Intersection graphs associated with semigroup acts

The intersection graph $mathbb{Int}(A)$ of an $S$-act $A$ over a semigroup $S$ is an undirected simple graph whose vertices are non-trivial subacts of $A$, and two distinct vertices are adjacent if and only if they have a non-empty intersection. In this paper, we study some graph-theoretic properties of $mathbb{Int}(A)$ in connection to some algebraic properties of $A$. It is proved that the fi...

Intersection Graphs of Pseudosegments: Chordal Graphs

We investigate which chordal graphs have a representation as intersection graphs of pseudosegments. For positive we have a construction which shows that all chordal graphs that can be represented as intersection graph of subpaths on a tree are pseudosegment intersection graphs. We then study the limits of representability. We describe a family of intersection graphs of substars of a star which ...
